• Observation of discrete events adds some extra complication

  • not regular samples
  • need to compare rates of asynchronous events at different points in simulation

• Consider regular time-slots

  • if more than one event in a slot, take average in slot, and use this as contribution to long term average
  • if no events, omit slot from long term average
