Students share social media expertise with local businesses

Student IT consultants were invited to share their knowledge in social and collaborative media with local organisations at an interactive workshop on 6 March, at Kent’s Medway Campus.
The students, who are working as consultants in the Kent IT Clinic as part of their final year studies, shared their expertise with small and medium sized businesses and gave tips on how to incorporate social media into business strategy.
Lesley Chater, Business Development Manager at Kent Innovation and Enterprise said: “The feedback from those attending was overwhelmingly positive and we had a good spread of attendees from different sectors.”
One student, Vishal Soni, made such a good impression that he was also invited to share his insights with another group of local businesses at the Kent Business School on Friday 15 March. His presentation was well-received by the group of ambitious owner-managers, known as the BIG network (Business improvement and growth network).
The Kent IT Clinic (KITC) is a university-based IT consultancy, run by IT students and sector experts. The KITC consultants have completed industrial placements for major companies such as Intel, IBM and Microsoft, giving them significant experience in both business and technical roles. The relationships between the KITC consultants and their clients are managed by IT professionals and are mentored by academics from the School of Computing.
