BT Chief Researcher joins School staff

The School of Computing has appointed a Chief Researcher at BT Research and Innovation to its staff. Dr Theo Dimitrakos will begin his two-year, part-time professorship in September 2013.
Professor Frank Wang, Head of the School of Computing said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Theo Dimitrakos. Theo combines deep technical knowledge with strong leadership skills. He also has the experience of managing large-scale international research collaborations and innovation delivery projects. He has been the scientific coordinator and technical manager of some of the largest and most successful research and innovation initiatives in Europe and we are confident he will contribute significantly to our REF submissions and will shape the future of the School's research.”
Theo has 20 years of research experience in information and communications technology and, at BT, he leads innovation activities on information security. His research interests include cloud computing security, cyber security, data confidentiality and data leak protection, trust management and reputation systems, identity and access management, uncertainty reasoning and formal logic.
Theo has been a member of expert groups in the European Network and Information Security Agency, as well as the chair of the International Federation for Information Processing working group on Trust Management. He has written technical books, scientific publications and patent applications. Theo has been an invited speaker in leading government, industry and academic conferences and has lectured at King's College London.
Theo has recently worked with the School's Professor David Chadwick to submit three proposals to the EC call for FED4FIRE experiments.
