Sciences Research Festival

10 December 2012

The Faculty of Sciences is holding a Research Festival on Thursday, 10 January in the new Colyer-Fergusson building to celebrate and raise awareness of the research across the Schools in the Faculty, and to facilitate new interdisciplinary collaborations.

The Festival is primarily for staff, postgraduate students and final year undergraduate students within the Faculty but other members of the university and general public are welcome too.

The Festival is being organised by Professor Richard Jones, Sciences Faculty Director of Research and Enterprise . He said; 'Members of the Science Faculty have long expressed an interest in knowing more about research in other Schools and campuses.  With research councils increasingly emphasising interdisciplinary work, it is essential that we utilise expertise available across the University.'

The programme will include two keynote talks, lots of short talks from faculty members and a wrap-up by the Vice-Chancellor. There will be research posters, a buffet lunch, and plenty of opportunity for networking. Colleagues from support services (Research ServicesKIE,Graduate School) will also be on hand to offer advice and answer questions. The keynote speakers are

  • Ross Anderson, Professor of Security Engineering, University of Cambridge.
  • Darren Griffin, Professor of Genetics, University of Kent.

Richard continued, 'This promises to be a fascinating and useful day. I very much hope that you will attend the festival and encourage your colleagues and students to join you.'

The Festival will run from 10am – 6pm. There will be a buffet lunch with no charge but attendees are asked to mail Natalie Barnes by Friday 14 December to confirm their attendance and any dietary requirements.
